Stalida & Malia have the most beautiful sandy beaches in the east of Heraklion. Quality of water is extraordinary good and the crystal, turquoise-blue water allows to see to the ground even far away from the beach. Free of jellyfish and other annoying animals bathing and swimming are great fun. Generally in Greece it is forbidden to block off beaches in order to categorize them as private beaches. Nowadays constructing is allowed only up to 30m distance from the seaside. Everywhere you can rent sun beds and umbrellas at different rates. Hotels normally give a reduction for “their” guests. Cleanness on the beach
It shouldn’t be only the duty of beach staff to keep the beach clean and
well cared-for (cigarette stubs, empty cans etc.); it would be desirable
that each visitor clears away his own rubbish before leaving the beach.Locker rooms?
Indeed, they really exist as you can see on the
photo. But not everywhere
– imitation urgently recommendedNudism in its narrower sense is not allowed. You can find nudist beaches close to resorts at the south coast of Crete. Nearly everywhere there are wooden grates during the summer months, so that getting into the water means not burning your feet too much. Only a few people have such tough skin that they can walk on the hot sand for longer distance with nonchalance. Therefore, either provide yourself before leaving from home or buy here the obligatory bathing slippers (specially for children) There are freshwater showers on all beaches. Our suggestion
Do as the locals do: either in the early morning or in late the afternoon to
the beach and have a snooze during midday. For children it is absolutely necessary to wear a sun hat, cap etc (you find a wide range and various designs available at reasonable prices). Most of the beaches nearby hotels are watched over, i.e. information flags (white (green), yellow, red) are hoisted with the following meaning see photo | |||||||
